Cabernet is our last varietal to ripen, so we look for good dry weather through March, and hope the nights don’t get too cold before harvest in late March/early April. Medium bodied, with intense cassis and floral violet tones, firm tannins and carefully balanced oak. 2014 was an outstanding vintage for Granite Belt Cabernet.
This world famous wine region in South Australia is surprisingly small in size (a bit like the Granite Belt!) Renowned for the Terra Rossa soil that covers an area of just 15km x 2km, Coonawarra produces some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the world. Close proximity to the ocean means the climate is cool-mild. The style is opulent and intense due to the rich soil.
82% Granite Belt, from a special “wild-ferment” batch from Seven Scenes Blks 1, 2 & 47 blended with 18% Cabernet pressings from one of Coonawarra’s great producers. We think that the dark intensity of the Coonawarra pressings adds a whole new dimension to our elegant Granite Belt Cabernet.
