COLOUR: Rich violet red, with purple hues
NOSE: A young, elegant Merlot showing Big Sister fruitcake aromas, redcurrants, dried spices.
PALATE: Sourced from Blocks 2 and 52 from our Seven Scenes Vineyard, this is a unique Granite Belt regional Merlot style. Our Merlot tends to be quite fruit driven, soft varietal and plump, ripe red blood plums, vanillin oak, firm but soft chestnut tannins, and tapered acidity with elegant French and American oak.
2014 was a good year for Merlot in our Granite Belt vineyards. We used a cold soak method on the fruit pre-fermentation to intensify flavours. Cool-fermented, initiated with wild yeast and finished with cultured yeast, then aged in French and American oak barrels for 13 months.
FOOD MATCH SUGGESTION:
Enjoy with oven-roasted Lamb rack baked Beetroots and leeks and a Merlot sauce.
