REGION: Granite Belt 818m Elev, Australia
COLOUR: Rich ruby red, with violet tones
NOSE: A young, elegant Shiraz Viognier blend showing red
cherry, spiced plums and floral orange blossom notes, with
soft vanillin oak.
PALATE: Sourced from Blocks 26 & 3 from Seven Scenes Vineyard,
this is a distinctive Granite Belt cool climate Syrah style; very
delicate, with varietal characters of intense cherries and plum,
touches of white pepper, and lovely hints of apricot from the
Viognier. Firm tannins, good intensity with balanced supporting
French and American oak.
2015 was a cooler year for Shiraz, picked alongside hand-selected
bunches of late harvested Viognier from our Night Sky vines. This
regional blend works well in our Granite Belt vineyards. We used a
cold soak method on the Shiraz with 4% ripe Viognier fruit added
to the crushed red fruit pre-fermentation. Cool fermented with both
wild and cultured yeasts, then aged in oak barriques for 14 months.
