2019 Signature Collection Merlot
COLOUR: Rich violet red with purple hues.
NOSE: Intense aromas of fruitcake, red plums, blackberry and anise.
PALATE: Deep, intense blood plum, red and black cherries, touches of rhubarb and baking spices, so expressive of this well-known variety. Maturation in French oak barriques has added subtle notes of vanilla, cloves and toast. Released at three years old, this wine shows beautifully developing fruit complexity supported by soft, silky tannins and a long, satisfying finish.
WINEMAKING COMMENTS: The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, referring to the colour of the grape. Australian Merlot is enjoyed for its roundness and soft expression, and popular for its combination of berry and vivid plum-like flavours and silky mid-palate.
